English dome topped tortoiseshell & silver piquet striking carriage clock by William Comyns & Sons
A very attractive English Edwardian dome topped tortoiseshell, silver & silver piquet carriage clock. Tortoiseshell panels to the sides & solid silver back door. The dome top and the tortoiseshell front plate profusely decorated with delicate pique work in silver of bouquets of flowers and swags with arabesques. Set upon four bun feet. The 8 day movement, striking the halves and hour on a gong. Silver marks for William Comyns & Sons, date London 1912. William Comyns was the best known and most famous of suppliers of silver piquet work in London at the end of the 19th century. He made this style of dome topped carriage clock his own almost every one seen is made by this maker. Excellent tortoiseshell and the finest silverwork. The fine white enamel dial signed Edwards & Sons, Regent St. for the retailers. 18cm High
