A superb French Empire patinated bronze and ormolu mantel clock by Breguet. In superb condition, the ormolu of extremely high quality, as is the chasing, note the work done by the graveur on the swans. Set upon for toupee feet, the base with superb mounts of a bust, and depicting Cupid in a chariot pulled by grasshoppers and butterflies and the other by birds, the side depicting dogs. The white enamel dial with Roman numerals in gold, signed Breguet a Paris, with Breguet moon hands. The superb timepiece movement is a gut fusee, a very high quality movement, and higher quality than the usual spring barrel movements you find in the majority of French empire clocks, reflecting the quality of Breguet. Abraham-Louis Breguet was born in Neuchâtel, spending his working life in Paris is regarded as perhaps the greatest horologist and clockmaker of all time, and was responsible for many innovations.
